PENNIES FOR PATIENTS: Last week concluded the K-4 Pennies for Patients fundraising drive. During the month of March, K-4 students raised over $480.00 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The money they collected will be used to help support research to advance therapies for these diseases, as well as to improve the quality of life for patients and their families. Congratulations to all of those who participated in the drive, and thanks to the community for your support.

ST JUDE MATH-A-THON: Thirty-nine students in grade 6 completed the Math-A-Thon and raised $4320.60 for St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, by being sponsored to complete the Math-A-Thon problems. The hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and treating children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas, St Jude freely shares its discoveries with the scientific and medical communities around the world. No family ever pays for treatments not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay. The daily operating cost for St Jude is $2 million, which is primarily covered by public contributions such as through the Math-A-Thon.
Congratulations to the sixth grade students and their parents for a very successful community service project, raising money to help children who are sick and their families. Did you know that since our sixth grade classes started this community service project in March 2000, they have raised over $71,400?
