Charters Change Lives

Students in New Jersey charter schools on average make
significant, positive learning gains in both reading and math.

Stanford University’s Center for Research on Education Outcomes (CREDO) released a report today confirming that a typical charter school student in New Jersey gains more learning in a year than his or her district school peers in both reading and math.

According to the findings, students enrolled in urban charter schools learn significantly more in math and reading compared to their traditional district peers.  Students in suburban charter schools learn more in both subjects, although the impact is not as large.

Parents and students in New Jersey’s communities have known for years that charters change lives, a reality further supported by this report. With 20,000 students on wait lists to attend charters, families are demanding more charter options. Every child in New Jersey deserves a great education and the opportunity to attend a high-quality public school that is right for them. Now is the time to do more for those families.
